Scene from: Le Corsaire

Composer: Adam, Pugni, Delibes, Drigo and Oldenbourg
Conductor: Viktor Fedotov

Filmed at the Kirov Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1989, Le Corsaire features the two major stars who lead the Kirov for several years - Altynai Asylmuratova and Faroukh Ruzimatov. Magnificent scenic effects and dramatic choreography have ensured that Petipa's Le Corsaire remains popular to this day.
The story is set on the Ionian coast during the occupation of Greece by Turkey and tells the story of three pirates, Conrad, Ali and Birbanto, who are castaways, having escaped from their wrecked ship. Once on land they are entranced by the sight of a group of beautiful Greek women and Conrad falls in love with Medora. Hiding the corsairs from a Turkish patrol, the women are themselves captured, but later seized from the patrol by the slave-trader Lankedem, to sell in the market. The corsairs must exercise their ingenuity as they miraculously save the women. Medora is once again abducted by Lankedem, but this time Conrad, in disguise, rescues her and they escape forever.
Viktor Fedotov conducts The Kirov Theatre Orchestra with music by Adolphe Adam, Cesare Pugni, Léo Delibes, Riccardo Drigo and Prince Oldenbourg.
