Scene from: Don Quixote
Composer: Ludwig Minkus
Conductor: Paul Connelly
Mikhail Baryshnikov's full-length production of Don Quixote for American Ballet Theatre was filmed at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. This is one of the most popular and joyous of ballets which captures all the excitement, Spanish colour and humour of Cervantes' original masterpiece. Baryshnikov himself takes the title role in this wonderful 1983 performance. He is partnered by Cynthia Harvey as Kitri.
The famous virtuosic pas de deux is danced in this performance by Baryshnikov "like a dream", according to the NEW YORK POST, "a madcap bravado which combined with his pure classicism gives his dancing an edge of genius."
"The dancers had the audience gasping."
