Scene from: Spartacus
Composer: Aram Khachaturian

The awesome technique and strength of the Bolshoi Ballet is shown to great effect in Yuri Grigorovich's legendary Spartacus, the epic story of a Thracian slave's fight for freedom. Grigorovich's choreography fills the huge Bolshoi stage with dynamic scenes of tension and conflict, which give full expression to the virility and strength for which Russia's male dancers are renowned. Irek Mukhamedov brings his prodigious technique to the role of Spartacus, with Natalya Bessmertnova as his wife Phrygia.
"Spartacus is a celebration of male dancing at its most spectacular"
THE OBSERVER.
"Even when sitting motionless, Mukhamdeov radiates power, and when he bounds the stage he is really awesome."
