Scene from: Don Giovanni

Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Conductor: Yakov Kreizberg

Stage Producer Deborah Warner's enthralling production from Glyndebourne sets Mozart's Don Giovanni in modern dress in the 20th century. Hildegard Bechtler's abstract set , austere black and grey with transluscent drapes, is lit with wonderful imagination by Jean Kalman. The cast is lead by Gilles Cachemaille's powerfully sung Giovanni and Steven Page's crafty, lucid Leporello. Adrianne Pieczonka's passionate Elvira, Hillevi Martinpelto's poignant Anna and John Mark Ainsley's exquisitely sung Ottavio. Juliane Banse and Roberto Scaltriti also make an engaging couple as Zerlina and Masetto. Yakov Kreizberg conducts the period-instrument Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

"Giovanni's descent to a personal hell was terrifying and shocking. Gilles Cachemaille was hideously graphic, and his singing and musicianship was outstanding" OPERA.
